US Official Predicts Iran Attack on Israel Won't Be Big Enough to Draw America into War

A US official has predicted that an Iranian attack on Israel will not be big enough to draw America into war. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Iran is likely to launch a limited strike against Israel in retaliation for the killing of Qasem Soleimani.

The official said that Iran is likely to target Israeli military bases or infrastructure, but that it is unlikely to launch a large-scale attack that would kill a significant number of civilians. The official also said that Iran is unlikely to attack US forces in the region.

The official's prediction is in line with the assessments of other experts. Michael Oren, a former Israeli ambassador to the United States, said that Iran is likely to launch a "tit-for-tat" attack against Israel, but that it is unlikely to start a full-scale war.

"Iran is not interested in a war with the United States," Oren said. "They know that they would lose."

The Israeli government has also downplayed the risk of a major Iranian attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel is "prepared for any scenario" but that he does not believe that Iran will launch a large-scale attack.

"We are not looking for war," Netanyahu said. "But we will not hesitate to defend ourselves if we are attacked."
